Information Literacy Instruction
The librarians conduct regular informational sessions for the entire classroom, per instructor request. All courses are supported. We will tailor coverage to meet the specific information literacy needs of the instructor. Interested faculty are encouraged to contact the library at library@
kvcc.me.edu or call 453-5004 to set up a session.
Interlibrary Loan
Borrow materials from other libraries and have them delivered to KVCC, free of charge. The entire campus community is welcome to use interlibrary loan (ILL). Request ILLs within the state via MILS or MaineCat to order from: Maine public libraries of all sizes; from any University of Maine collection; and also from Colby, Bates, or Bowdoin. To extend your search beyond Maine, try WorldCat, and contact a librarian to place your request. Keep in mind that in addition to books and videos, the library will also obtain articles from any magazine, journal, or newspaper upon request.
Course Reserves
Instructors have the option of selecting books, articles, or videos – either from the library or personal collections – to be made available for mandatory and supplemental class assignments. Students usually check out this material for in-house use. Interested instructors may email library@
kvcc.me.edu or call 453-5004 to place items on course reserve.
Books-by-Mail
Books-by-mail is a service for online and distance students. The library will ship items from its collection to your home. Return packaging and postage are included. Email library@
kvcc.me.edu or call 453-5004.
Library Partners
Area Libraries – Visiting Patron Privileges
Students and employees of Kennebec Valley Community College have free walk-in borrowing privileges at the following libraries: the Colby College Libraries, Waterville Public Library, Thomas College Library, and the MaineGeneral Medical Center Library. Your college ID is your library card, so be sure to bring it along.
Statewide Resources and Services
- Interlibrary Loan
Borrow media – books, videos, audiobooks, etc. – from across the state through MILS and MaineCat, catalogs which are part of the Maine InfoNet. The KVCC Library participates in Maine InfoNet, a collaborative of academic, public, school, and special libraries which facilitates access to millions of items for all residents of Maine.
- Area Reference and Resource Centers (ARRCs)
Bangor Public Library, the Maine State Library, and Portland Public Library are the designated ARRCs within Maine. As such they provide free library accounts and interlibrary loan service to Maine residents.
Across the Nation, Around the Globe!
Since long before the days of the internet, libraries have networked together to offer access to collections beyond their own walls. Now the convenience of the web brings the public a library discovery tool of its own called WorldCat (www.worldcat.org). WorldCat is a catalog of libraries from around the world. Submit WorldCat requests directly to the librarians and we will obtain the items for you. In addition, the library's membership in DOCLINE allows free access to most articles in medical journals.
