PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
Health Information Management combines the growing area of health care with the cutting edge of technology. Health Information Technicians are an integral part of the healthcare team and are responsible for maintaining patient records by observing confidentiality, integrity and security. HIM professionals serve the healthcare industry and public by ensuring physicians, healthcare organizations and patients have access to the right healthcare information when and where it is needed.
The mission of the Health Information Management (HIM) program at KVCC is to provide the necessary educational opportunities and experiences to prepare students for certification and practice as Registered Health Information Technicians (RHIT). With the combined efforts of clinical affiliations, the HIM program offers an opportunity for students to develop the necessary skills, knowledge, and attitudes to attain an AAS degree and eligibility for the RHIT credential.
PROGRAM OUTCOMES:
1. The KVCC passing rate for first-time HIM students taking the RHIT credentialing exam is ninety percent (90%).
2. The HIM program Attrition and Retention rate for 2017 was seventy-one percent (71%). The KVCC institutional Attrition and Renention rate for the same period is fifty-eight percent (58%).
3. The Graduation rate for 2017 in the HIM program was seventeen (17) students. The 2018 graduation rate was nine (9) students.
